Hello, friends!
While I was never a mastermind with things technology-related, I had an outstanding 3D printing experience at the Campbell University-Creek Makerspace.
It all started about two years ago, when someone in my household broke the dryer handle. Even until this day, the troublemaker will not admit his or her guilt. As time passed, with using duct tape attached to the broken handle, I eventually grew tired of the process. I thought, "there has to be a way to improvise and fix this." Unfortunately, I did not think I had the resources to fix it.
It wasn't until I had a business class with, Mr. Scott Kelly, that I knew about 3D printing. He explained to all the students that this could be a way to use modern technology to solve a problem like a broken clasp, knob, or button. Then, that was when the idea suddenly came... I can finally fix my handle.
With going into the printing lab, I was a little intimidated. I had no clue how to use any of the devices that were supplied; however, the staff was super helpful and answered any additional questions that I had. Also, I was able to use a wonderful website called Tinkercad to help me map out and design my project.
Furthermore, I found this super helpful video to guide me through the strenuous task:
Once I had everything designed and ready to go, the 3D printer informed me that it was going to be about 13 to 14 hours until completed. That was totally fine with me, as long as my handle had the potential of being fixed. I was also notified that sometimes, after the print was completed, the prototype could break. Luckily, mine turned out perfect! Yay!
I picked it up the next day as soon as it was finished, and guess what... It snapped in, just perfectly, to the dryer. I was in heaven. Needless to say, I was quite proud of my creation. Thanks to Campbell Universities amazing 3D printing lab, and all the other wonderful resources I had access to, my dryer-problem is solved!
Thanks and check out some of my photos below --->
